Book Now - Lucas Cave

Colossal Caverns. Your journey starts with a 300-step stair climb, to the mouth of this ancient cave, one of the first to be discovered at Jenolan in 1860. It’s worth the effort, because once inside, awe-inspiring sights await, and your journey becomes easy.

With plenty of rest stops, your friendly guide will lead you from the ‘Anteroom’ into Jenolan’s highest chamber - the enormous ‘Cathedral’ - named for the amazing shapes of its huge crystal formations. This chamber has 160 years of stories to tell, of discovery, weddings and performances. You may spot tiny microbats, flickering in the shadows far above. If you like to sing, take this opportunity to try out the famous acoustics.

Next, journey deeper into the limestone mountain. At the ‘Slide’, hear about the old days, when safety was just an afterthought. In the ‘Exhibition Chamber’, see the famous ‘Broken Column’, and the lavish ‘Procenium’, draped with colourful crystal shawls. Dwarfed by its sheer size, we lead you down the length of Jenolan’s most massive chamber, the size of a small football field.

‘The Pink and White Terraces’, a series of beautiful flowstone cascades, will take your breath away. Finally, ascend to the beautiful ‘Mafeking Chamber’, a narrow passage, rich with exquisite crystal formations. Your journey through the mighty Lucas Cave will stay with you forever.

Although children under age 4 are free of charge, please remember to book a ticket for them.

If you are driving all the way to Jenolan, you might want to consider booking accommodation, for a getaway to remember.
